Board / Committee Descriptions
WJHHS Board: The Board of Directors meets every month, January to November, to plan events, discuss community outreach, and strategize the future. It is a diverse and creative group who work well together and enjoy sharing the fascinating history of our community with others. Any WJHHS member who wishes to do so may attend.
Archive and Research: This committee holds its meetings at 1:00 P.M. each Wednesday and as needed throughout the year. At these meetings, members inventory, document, organize, and prepare displays of the Society's collection of books, documents, photographs, and artifacts. In addition, they conduct research and answer queries for information on local and family history, and present information in the showcases located at the Jefferson Hills Municipal Building. Fundraising: This committee creates products and events designed to raise money for the Society. Products include an annual calendar and a variety of booklets on local history topics. The committee also organizes events such as craft shows, tea parties, bake sales, and other special events designed to raise money. Meetings are called as needed throughout the year. Contact Karen Sechrist or Bev Borneman for the next meeting time/date.
Membership: The Membership Committee develops the WJHHS membership form for perspective new members, and distributes membership renewal forms to continuing WJHHS members. Based on this information the committee develops membership cards, a list of active members and/or a membership directory. Meetings are called as needed throughout the year. Newsletter: Members of the Newsletter Committee write original articles and reprint already published news articles on local history topics. They also gather and report on Society news, events, and programs. These reports and stories are then published in a quarterly newsletter provided to members. In lieu of committee meetings, this committee communicates through e-mail. Contact Deb Morinello to join in any step of the newsletter publication process.
Program: The Program Committee locates and schedules speakers and plans programs to present at Society monthly meetings. Members of this committee also provide and set up refreshments at the Society general meetings. To volunteer, please contact Beverly Borneman or Deb Morinello.
Technology: The Technology Committee of the West Jefferson Hills Historical Society oversees the technology needs of the Society. Technology support includes maintaining the Society website and social media pages; updating and printing essential items; assuring that program speakers have their technology needs met; and supporting other WJHHS committees with their unique technology needs.
